Jyll Hubbard-Salk has been a yoga teacher for nearly 30 years and is the founder of Urban Asanas, a yoga and wellness studio in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, committed to bringing diversity into the yoga community. Always willing and wanting to support, Jyll has cultivated a space for skilled yoga instructors who share her passion for helping people develop and implement self-care practices. Urban Asanas is a space where a wide variety of yoga styles and techniques are shared, along with other wellness modalities such as acupuncture — and everyone who steps into her studio feels welcomed, supported, and part of a vibrant, inclusive community.
Jyll's classes are designed for people of all backgrounds, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or financial situation, providing a safe and open environment to explore mind, body, and spirit. She fosters empowerment and connection, encouraging others to prioritize well-being and personal growth. Her teaching philosophy, captured in her motto "Stay ready so you don't have to get ready," reflects her commitment to helping people become the best versions of themselves.
A devoted wife and mother, Jyll draws inspiration from her children — Sierra, Cypress, and Indigo — whom she considers her greatest teachers. She is also inspired by her students, who empower her drive to go harder. Her teaching experience ranges from youths to senior citizens across New York City and surrounding states, in schools, community organizations, charities, sports clubs, and private instruction, and her transformative yoga retreats have taken her to Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Ghana. She is also a certified Thai Yoga and Reiki practitioner and doula, dedicated to teaching the healing power of breathwork and meditation. Her transformative energy continues to uplift and inspire all who cross her path.
